In April of 1959, Leo Gray opened the doors of Gray's Test Lane in Ashkum, Illinois. Leo was a dreamer, and the dream he started has outlasted him — 67 years later it's still here, still in the family.
It was Leo's son, Dennis, who turned that dream into the business it is today. A hard worker with a clear vision and the business sense to match, Dennis Gray transformed Gray's Test Lane into Gray's Test Lane and Alignment — completely upgrading the existing building in 2002 by tearing out all of the old concrete and installing two pits: one in the Test Lane, the other for an alignment bay outfitted with Hunter Engineering alignment equipment.
Dennis planned, oversaw, and executed the renovations with a small team of family and business acquaintances. For nearly 25 years he ran the shop, building it into the community fixture our neighbors still count on today.
In 2022, Dennis retired and sold the business to his youngest son, Isaac Gray. Isaac grew up in the shop and learned two of the most important things a young man ever could by watching his father: how to work hard and how to treat people right. That work ethic and that impetus to take care of our neighbors still drive every minute Isaac spends in the shop.
